The men's basketball team hosted their first home game against Lambton College and picked up their first victory of the season by a final score of 83-41. I had the opportunity to also work this game with the promotions director. I had a similar role as I did with the women's basketball game and that was to assist with contests during timeouts and halftime. I coordinated and selected contestants to participate during the game.

There were a number of events I was unable to schedule for the athletics department because of conflicts with other groups using certain facilities. I met with the event services department to discuss getting men's and women's games and practices scheduled appropriately. Today was my first experience with some game management and helping out with various parts of the Women's basketball game(Tiffin University 70 vs Cedarville University 63). One of my roles for this game was to assist with promotions and sponsored contests to get the fans involved during timeouts and halftime. I selected contestants from the crowd and would explain the contest they would participate in and then when the time came take them onto the court for the contest. There were three different contests I helped coordinated during the game There were a couple more forms that needed to be filled out for the vending license application. These forms include information on how food to be served would be prepped, information about the location including sanitation methods and equipment used, features of the facilities (hot water tank sizes), pest control, and methods for maintaining proper food temperatures. I had to gather the information from various departments on campus. I attend a suicide prevention training meeting with the rest of the athletic department.
After learning the system the previous day, I was able to go to work and schedule at basketball events for the season. This took some time because of having to go in and schedule each game individually. I compiled the email with the flyer to be sent out to organizations for the football game and called some organizations that didn't have an available email address.
The promotions contact lists I have been working on were to be used to help promote the final home football game. For the final home football game its was senior night and athletics was also holding a Tiffin Appreciation Night and Tiffin residents could get into the game for free. I was able to use the list to quickly email a number of organizations in town to invite to the game. I was also asked to take care of scheduling all the games and practices for men's and women's varsity and junior varsity games and practices. Today consisted of continuing the research for organizations in cities outside of Tiffin for the promotions contact list. Most of the lists are almost complete and will frequently need changes and additions. I had a few more tasks for the vending license which was to take pictures and create a drawing that mapped out the concession stand that included where equipment was located, sinks are located, and the locations of the lights.
The university hosted a concert event for elementary school students to encourage recycling. When got to work I didn't expect what I would be doing that day. First I met with the athletic director and he said we need to find Blaze which is the schools mascot for this event. The costume was found and we went to make sure the costume was there for the event. The person that was supposed to be Blaze the dragon did not show up. This was a perfect job for the intern, so for the event I was Blaze and met the children as they came off the bus and then interacted with the kids and danced during the first part of the concert. An athletic meeting was held with all the coaches and department personnel to discuss responsibility for inauguration and other related issues. I was given another project from the athletic director to work on which is to help get the application prepared and submitted to get a vending license so athletic teams can sell concessions in the Heminger Center during events. I got a tour of where all the old athletic facilities used to be in town and the campus and department have seen tremendous growth and improvement. |
