The tasks for the day included a variety of office related duties. The men's basketball team added a game to the schedule that hadn't been scheduled through events services. There was a conflicting event when the game was to played so I had to meet with events services to get the game scheduled so that the necessary equipment was ready for game time. The promotions coordinator needed help so I edited and updated the scripts for the remaining home games of the men's and women's basketball seasons. I met with the athletic director and we discussed career opportunities as well as selected potential jobs that would fit the skills and experience I have to get my career started in college athletics. He found a number of jobs that he suggested I should apply for. Lastly, I helped scan documents from signing day that will be used to submit to the NCAA.

I had my usual meetings with the marketing classes to gather any order forms and money to be sent to the Indians. I also helped the students generate how they would achieve their ticket sale goals and the businesses, family, or friends they might reach out to in order to sell tickets. I created a roster for one of the classes that organized the teams and coordinated each team's link for customers to purchase tickets. I restocked the VIP room with beverages for the next home basketball games. At the end of the day I ran a few errands for the athletic director.
Prior to the start of the women's game there were a few items that needed to be completed. Those items included the scripts for both the men's and women's games and also learning the process for player introductions during the men's game. Another intern and I worked on preparing the scripts for the games and editing them and printing them. The scripts are used by the public address announcer and include what is supposed to be read during certain times of the games such as sponsor promotions. I helped with t-shirt throws and contests in between quarters and during timeouts. I assisted with an game operations and management, took video during the games for social media promotions. I helped make sure food and beverage was stocked in the VIP room for the attending sponsor. During halftime we had the Tiffin Dance Team perform, I met with them to get music and also meet with them prior to the half to make sure they were ready to go on when scheduled. We also had a fifth grade basketball team that played during halftime and was in charge of meeting the team before half and get them on an off the court in a timely manner. It was a difficult night for both the women's and men's teams as the Ashland women are ranked number 1 in the country. With the events going on for the men's and women's basketball games, it made for a busy day in prep in the morning before the games and also during the games. Findlay is considered a rival of Tiffin and is just a short drive from campus. The games were highly attended by fans from both schools. In the morning I helped with prepping scripts and the promotional contests for the games. Additionally, we discussed my role in helping with all that would be going on during the games. Part of the promotions were to help fund raise for the girl with cystic fibrosis and the Make a Wish Foundation. We had a sports organizational group the student athletic advisory committee (SAAC) helping with the fundraisers which included a 50/50 raffle, t-shirt sales, and a dollar three point contest. The members of SAAC went throughout the crowd during the games selling 50/50 raffle tickets and promoting the dollar three point contest. During the dollar three point contests the fans could come onto the court and pay a dollar and attempt a three point shot. If they made it, their name would be entered into a drawing to take a half court shot to win a restaurant gift card during the second half. It required substantial organization and attention to detail to ensure that all tasks were completed and everything went smoothly for the games and the girl enjoyed her night at the game with her friends and family. It was an incredible atmosphere and a good amount of money was raised from the efforts of all involved. Tomorrow is one of the biggest games of the season for men's and women's basketball. The match-up is against the University of Findlay. Findlay is just a short distance from Tiffin and usually attracts one of the largest crowds of the season. This game is also accompanied with the Make a Wish foundation and there will be a number of things going throughout both of the games. Because of the large attendance and all that will be going on during the games. A young girl who is fighting cystic fibrosis will be in attendance and will be honored by Tiffin University. There will also be contests and other promotions that will also be used as fundraisers during time outs and half time of each of the games. A greater and exciting environment is a goal of for this game and additional planning and preparation has been required to make sure there aren't any issues on the day of the game. I met with the promotions coordinator and her two interns to discuss scheduling and each of our roles during the games tomorrow. There will also be a number of campus organizations there to help with the game and contests. Additionally, I met with the marketing classes for a short amount of time to gather any order forms to be submitted to the Cleveland Indians.
Today I had a variety of tasks in two different roles. A couple of the undergraduate marketing classes are conducting a project that is partnered with the Cleveland Indians. I have been asked to serve as the commissioner of the college ticket sales project for the university. A sales executive came down from the Indians to introduce the project and I learned what my role would be in helping students with selling tickets. There are two classes that will be selling tickets so on a weekly basis I will meet with the classes to submit order forms and be available to answer any questions. The remainder of the day with my usual responsibilities I had to go into event scheduling to verify that all the remaining games for women's and men's basketball are scheduled for the appropriate time and date, and then also schedule some of the Junior Varsity games.
Lonny and I met today to discuss some career goals and potential jobs opportunities when I complete my masters and graduate at the end of this semester. He told me to go on to NCAA job website to look for positions that fit where I wanted to see my career starting and places I could potentially work. With my family and I moving out here from Utah we would like to find a job and move closer to family if possible but we are open to moving to where I can achieve my career goals. If he had any connections that could help me out with any positions he would help with those and also look for any universities that might be seeking skills that I have acquired through school, this internship, and previous work experience. Prior to the meeting I had a couple of coaches that wanted to get an early start on any Clery Report for 2017 and emailed the required documents to those coaches.
I worked the women's and men's basketball games later that evening against Lake Erie College. I had a variety of roles for both of these games tonight. I helped with game management and then also worked with the promotions coordinator. She had some promotional contests planned and also needed to have music playing during breaks. The promotions coordinator also had two new interns that started working games and helping with the contests. During the women's game we held a contest during halftime in which I explained to the other interns how the process works and helped with that. During the men's game we held a contest at halftime and then also threw out t-shirts to the fans towards the end of the game with the cheerleaders to help energize the crowd in a closely matched game. The remainder of the time I helped with music for the game. Today as I got into work the athletic director had a project for me to take care of. He asked me to complete some research and conduct a salary audit for one of the universities that is also a member of the same conference that Tiffin athletics competes in, the GLIAC. I spent the majority of my time compiling an excel spreadsheet that included each position in the university's athletic department and the annual salary from 2015 for each particular position. Since the university is a state funded university, its salary information is available for the public to view. It took some time compile the spreadsheet included with finding each of the salaries. We discussed it and it was interesting to see the salaries the different positions made and also looking into further information to learn more about the experience and resumes the employees had.
I was able to complete my assignment and turned in the final Clery Reports to Campus Security. I attended a meeting with the athletic director, the deirector of events, and two of the coaches that certified with the health department to operate the concession stand. In the meeting was discussed how the concession stand would be operated during events and whether outside groups would be able to use it. Additionally it was discussed to get additional coaches certified in case the other coaches were unable to run the concession stand. The concession stand is to help fundraise for teams in the athletic department. I submitted paperwork to the financial aid office and business office.
I worked the women's and men's basketball games and assisted with game management, promotions and also music during the games. It was a small crowd once again because school is still not in session and it had snowed quite a bit that day. Because of the size of the crowd we decided not to do any promotional contests during the games. The women fell to Wildcats 69-53, while the men won against Northern Michigan by the score of 81-68 I had the intentions today to go in and turn in the Clery Reports to Campus Security but they were not in their office, but I was able to meet with the last coach I needed reports from and was only in the office for a short time. He was in a rush so he provided me the information and I completed the reports.
