I continued with my project to research organizations in the area to invite to athletic events. A lot of focus was on the Tiffin area and I finished up complying that list organizations in Tiffin. Additionally, the goal of the list is to include organizations in the surrounding area of Tiffin. I was able to start to generate lists that included organizations for schools, churches, youth groups, senior groups, nonprofits, and boy and girl scout groups for all of the cities in Seneca county and also for the city of Fremont in Sandusky County. Each of these cities are in close proximity to the university so these organizations may have interest in coming to a TU athletic event. With all of these lists the promotions team can quickly contact organizations in the area.
The athletic director, assistant athletic director and I went to a meeting at the Mohawk Golf Club to discuss the departments annual golf outing. Included in the discussion was the price for participants, menu, and date. Today we also discussed career development and a plan moving forward with this mentorship experience.

Under direction of the athletic director I was responsible for transporting food and beverage products from a concession stand into storage that is to be used in the VIP room in the gym where basketball and volleyball games are held. I helped the athletic director and events department with equipment to make sure they would be ready for a event to be held in the near future. I worked the men's soccer game, Tiffin University vs Saginaw Valley State, final score 4-4 in double overtime. It was the last home game of the season which included senior night and also it was student appreciation day. There was pizza and a raffle available for students that attended the game. I helped with the student appreciation give away, supported the team and also helped clean up after the game. The majority of the work I did this day was work with promotions. I worked on researching and adding to the list of contacts to try to get groups to come to athletic events. I met with the athletic director and director of promotions to discuss scheduling and games. Filed mail for department personnel.
A goal of the department is to garner greater interest on campus and student attendance to games. We had a meeting with the director of broadcasting and a member of sports information to utilize TV screens on campus to display athletic advertisements and also show team highlights on a TV screen located in the department offices. The remainder of the day was spent on conducting research to develop the contact list for promotions.
I met with coaches to check on the progress of their Clery Reports. I met with the promotions and services coordinator to learn about her job duties, responsibilities, and role in the athletic department. One of her goals and of the department is to increase attendance to sporting events on campus. I have been assigned the responsibility of compiling a list of contacts of groups, such as religious groups, youth groups, senior centers, etc in the area. This list will be used to make calls and sell tickets to promote events such as that of a faith night for a basketball game.
One of my responsibilities is to help facilitate reports between the athletic department and campus security to ensure compliance with the Clery Act. "The Jeanne Clery Act is, a consumer protection law passed in 1990, requires all colleges and universities who receive federal funding to share information about crime on campus and their efforts to improve campus safety as well as inform the public of crime in or around campus. This information is made publicly accessible through the university's annual security report." Teams are required to report on trips to other schools that fall under specific criteria. I spent a majority of the day meeting with coaches to help get Clery Trip reports completed and turned in. This will be an on going process.
I officially began my mentorship this day and shadowed Lonny Allen throughout the day. I learned quickly that as an athletic director there is a lot involved and many roles and responsibilities required to ensure all aspects of athletics are running smoothly in the department. We had a meeting with the softball and track and field coaches, a representative from maintenance, and a representative from events to determine what is required to be able to operate the concessions stand in the Heminger Building during various events to help generate funds. Throughout the day I also met many of the coaches, other department personnel, and other faculty and staff members on campus. The athletic director is responsible for voting on schedules for different teams. The conference that TU is a member of conducted a conference call with all the athletic directors in the conference to vote on schedules for the next two men's soccer seasons. This occurs regularly for each sport TU participates in. A meeting with all the coaches and members of the department was held with campus security to go over safety and the Clery Act. I was given the responsibility of working with the coaches and campus security to help with Clery Trip Reporting. The university is working on an Esports program and we met with the committee working on that project.
